Ottenbacher takes 4th Miniakota Feature!!

Ottenbacher takes 4th Miniakota Feature!!

7/15/2012

Miniakota wins have been spread pretty even amongst the Miniakota drivers this season, with 8 different drivers in 11 events taking top honors. Problem for the Miniakota cup chasers is Ottenbacher is the only driver to repeat this season. With 4 feature events under his belt, the 32T of Tim Ottenbacher has shown why he has several cups to his name.
Ottenbacher would start 7th row for the Sunday night Nobles county winged feature event. On the opening circuit the 600 sprints would not get far as Ottenbacher and Ryan Schuur starting from the the 4th row would both get into the backs of the 3rd row starting spots. The 21 of Schuur would flip violently down the front stretch setting the first red for the night. On the full restart, pole setter Wade Huisman, would drop the hammer and leave the pack into turn one. Through a series of yellows and a short red, due to a fire, Huismans 21w would stay strong as Ottenbachers 32t machine would pick spots off along the way. Around the 15th lap, Ottenbacher's work would pay off as the 21w machine would lose power and pull to the infield. The 97B of Chris Breen, the 4x of Ryan Hargan, the 11J of Jordan Nordstrom and the 89K of Kris Wilke would round out your top five.

Miniakota Makes it 8 winners in 10 shows

Jordan Nordstrom finds set up.

The 11J of Jordan Nordstrom was new to the Miniakota line up this season but this certainly wasn't his first season in the small cars. Nordstrom had spent several years in the big sprints before returning to his roots with the Miniakota Micro series, which led to his first win on the season. "We got burnt out on the big car stuff, just didn't have the fun we used to have together," reported the youngster. "I have to thank my Dad because he pretty much gives me everything he can to make this happen. And behind him, my Grandparents have been my biggest supporters from the start. My Dad hit the set up on the head tonight and had this thing on a rail!"
Nordstrom had a strong heat race which put him on the outside front row of the Miniakota Nonwing feature at NCSI. He would line up next to pole setter, Wade Huisman. As the green would drop the 11J would get the drop on the 21w and beat him down the line to the first corner. From there on, Jordan would hold pace the entire race, not making a mistake. A Final Yellow would allow Huisman to close the gap and make a last ditch run on the 11J. Huisman would drive in hard making slight contact with with front runner. As the 21w would get sideways and check up, the 11J machine would once again drive off with ease. The 32t of Ottenbacher, had worked his way up into 3rd and took advantage of the misstep and took the second spot as the three crossed the line.

Greg Gunderson runs flawless night!

Greg Gunderson runs flawless night!

7/5/2012

The 22x of Greg Gunderson saw heart break a few weeks back as he had to relinquish a lead and give up his first Miniakota victory. But this past Sunday night, Gunderson would not let anyone stand in his way of a perfect night winning his heat race and the feature, in impressive fashion. Gunderson, who had many fans in the stands and even a news crew on location, found his win with perfect timing. Greg has been racing since 1985 in all types of cars. Greg says this is certainly one of his top 10 moments in racing and the microsprints have been some of the most fun he has experienced in the sport! Greg's victory marked the 7 different driver in 9 Miniakota outings to take a victory... This week we are back at it with nonwing action taking place at Nobles County speedway in Worthington SD.

Kris Wilke Tops 19 for Miniakota Nonwing action!

Anyone that thinks they will walk into a Miniakota show and win an easy feature is dead wrong. These days it's hard earned when your racing the best and Wilke Motorsports knows all about it. The Miniakota veteran from Porter, MN is the epitome of consistency this season. With that, came his first Miniakota win and it was well earned and overdue. Along with it, the 89K machine would find himself knocking at the door of the Miniakota cup points lead. Wilke grabbed his win starting from the 14th position in the Miniakota Nonwing NCSI shootout.
Zach Drahota would find himself on point for the feature, lined up against the 4x ride of Ryan Hargan. On the opening green, Hargan would challenge Drahota and lead the field of 19 into turns 1&2. The 21w Of Wade Huisman would race Drahota out of third spot and then set his sights on the 4x leader. The 21w would reel in Hargan and take the lead for a series of laps before a caution would fly with Ottenbacher's 32t and Shane Fick's 7F, getting tangled. They would both restart to the rear of the field. As racing resumed, Ryan Hargan would take back the lead as the 21w would retire to the pits with fuel issues. Ryan Hargan would hold the point through a series of yellow flags that would slow the field. Kris Wilke, taking advantage of every caution he was given, had now worked his way up into the 2nd spot from 14th. As the green flag dropped the 4x machine would make a fatal mistake that would cost him his first Miniakota feature. Contact with infield barrel on the second to last lap would all but disable the XXX chassis of Hargan and allow Wilke to slip by and drive to his first Miniakota feature win. Kris dedicated his win to his parents that had a pair of Birthdays this last weekend.

Next Miniakota Race is July 1 NCSI Winged race. Please come and support the Best 600 racers in the Midwest!

Tim Ottenbacher takes Fathers Day special.

Tim Ottenbacher takes Fathers Day special.

6/20/2012

Tim Ottenbacher comes from Deep.

Tim Ottenbacher and the 32t machine have been no stranger to victory lane this season, as he has driven twice from deep in the field to take the top spot. This Fathers day would make the first season Tim's dad would not get to see his results and follow his racing. “This win is dedicated to my dad on this special day, miss ya & know you were along for the ride!" With a strong point average Ottenbacher would start in the 9th position for the nights main event. Jordan Nordstrom would claim the pole position along Greg Gunderson. After one lap with Nordstrom at point, his machine would spin and Johnson's 22 ride would have no place to go, as the 2011 Rookie of the year would jump a right rear. Johnson, who was on the move would flip and cause heavy damage to the top wing of his racer. Kaleb would walk away from the racecar OK but the young talent would continue to swallow a season of bad luck.
As Racing would resume Ottenbacher would charge up into the top 5 and over the next several laps he set his sights on Greg Gunderson who had a great race going. As the track started to blow off the 22x machine would begin to lose ground to the 32t. The relentless pursuit would eventually pay off for Ottenbacher as Gunderson would slide high and Ottenbacher would slip by. The remaining laps would see Ottenbacher out front with no challengers in sight.

Chris Breen Takes the Checkers!!!

6/15/2012

The Sexy #97 of the Chris the"Pile Driver" would find himself out front of a strong field of Minnesota Iowa and South Dakota's best winged 600cc racers. A bit of a shower would make the track heavy and cause a short intermission for the racers at Nobles County speedway. Chris Breen had paid his dues in the Miniakota world and after many hard run races as he scored his first Miniakota Victory. Chris would hold off a Pair of hot Rookie driver as Dalton Johnson and his 27 machine would be followed by new points leader Trey Thezenvitz. Dalton would make a run on Chris Early but settle in and take the second spot with the 53 of Trey close behind. Chris would be all smiles in Victory lane!

Tim Ottenbacher gives family a show and takes $500

6/3/2012

Tim Ottenbacher gives family a show and takes $500!!! 3 time Miniakota Points champion Tim Ottenbacher backed up his record with a brilliant drive from his 7th starting spot to take the top honors for Sunday nights Nonwing showdown. What made it special is Tim got to give his Mom a 60th Birthday present as she traveled some a great distance from his hometown of Eureka SD to watch. Ottenbacher's win would not come easy as the always present Kalab Johnson wheeled his nonwing 22 machine like a pro for all 18 laps. The 22 machine would only fall victim to the relentless pursuit of the 32t as the track would fade from Johnson and allow Tim to slip by for the win and the $500 first place prize. Racing was intense as the Miniakota drivers tried to get a grip on the slick dry surface as the track changed greatly during the feature. Hard Charger would be Trey Thesenvitz as he rovered from a heat race tire rule infraction to start dead last and make a charge up to 6th place followed. ryan Schuur would also start tail end after DQ for car weight would send him to the tail. Ryan would also make it back to 7th place. 19 cars made the Call for the NCSI $500 to win show. The next 2 weekends will see Winged racing back at NCSI!!!

Huisman takes opening Nonwing night.

6/1/2012

Back to the short track the Miniakota Microsprints would go as 16 of the best microsprint Nonwing drivers would do a little racing. The 21w of Wade Huisman would find his first win of the season taking the lead on the final 2 laps of the race from 2011 Miniakota Points champion Brandon Buysse. Huisman would not get it easy as the 22 of Kaleb Johnson would make a move and take the 2nd away briefly before spinning in turns 3&4 and getting collected. His machine would head to the hook. Huisman would regain his 2nd spot until the persistent 53t of Trey Thesenvitz and the 21w would trade spots back and forth. Huisman would out dual the young Thesenvitz before a caution would set up a showdown between the Beysse and Huisman rides. As the green would fall for the final circuit Huisman's 21w would take advantage of a low line and snag the lead from the #1 as the white flag flew.

Miniakota ready to go after long weekend off! $750 up for grabs!!!

After a nice weekend off the Miniakota Microsprints have a double header is in store. Nonwing racing is the name of game as the racers test their skills as they unhook the motors and get their elbows up! This will be the first weekend to accumulate points for the nonwing portion of our chase. Can the 7F of Shane Fick, hot off a winning streak, keep it going or will Tim Ottenbacher's 32T repeat at Murray county speedway to hold his points lead?.... Or will youngster Trey Thesenvitz continue to shine as he holds his second place points spot and top rookie honors?.... Friday night at Slayton will tell the tail as we return to the short track for some more wheelie action. MCS hot laps at 7:15pm. Fridays event will be $250 to win and a guaranteed $80 to start. This will lead us back to the big track of Nobles County Speedway for our topless sunday show to round out the double weekend. Sunday's event will offer a $500 to win opportunity for the top nonwing Miniakota driver with nomral pay scale to follow! Hot laps at NCS 5:30pm.

Note: Rule book has been updated to reflect top 5 finishers to tech after heat and features. This will be noted at several pit meatings to come.

Miniakota Rule proposals for 2013 have been updated on the rules page. All rules proposals can be sent to kaw@mtcnet.net
