Vissiting the large Elko speedway for the first time we were not sure what to expect. After the dust cleared the Miniakota Microsprints and its loyal friends put on a spectacular show. Night one hoasted 2 Micor Sprints with drivers representing 8 states. The action was extremely competitive with Robby Resch, Chris Koch and Jamison Wilson battling through the early stages, before Resch and Koch separated themselves and set off on a one on one duel. It took until the final lap to settle the issue and it was Mo native Koch edging past Resch, Youngster from Wisconson, to earn the victory and his $300 perlim check, with Tyler Stump closing fast to take third away from Wilson ending an action packed night. Top 10. Koch, Resch, Stump, Wilson, Prochaska, Huisman, Chavalier, Darrow, Farnsworth, Ottenbacher.

Redwood Falls, MN (July 8th, 2010) – Fans, drivers, and pit crew members alike from all over the Upper Midwest convened at the moderately banked 1/5 mile located on the Redwood County Fairgrounds for some high speed Winged Sprint Car action, Redwood Speedway style!

The Microsprints got the night’s qualifying action underway. Heat race one was dominated by Wade Huisman with heat two being captured by Lakefield, MN driver Skylar Prochaska
With the night’s feature set for 15laps the green flag waved over the field. Wade Huisman took the lead from pole while the other competitors battled wheel to wheel. Only one caution stalled action during the duration of the event with Huisman never relinquishing the lead. In the end it was Huisman taking the win ahead of Skylar Prochaska, Ryan Scheurs, Tim Attenbacher, and Jalen Morris

For the Second night of racing for the weekend the Miniakota microsprints their fourth appearance of the summer first points event at Kopellah Speedway. Running a format similar to the UMSS, the Micro-Sprints ran two qualifying heat races prior to the main event with two newcomers finding the quarter-mile to their liking. Wade “the Wheelman” Huisman won the first qualifier with fellow Hospers, Iowa, racer Tim Ottenbacher staking claim to the second heat race. In a dominating performance, Huisman took his #21w sprinter to Victory Lane – although with a few more laps, previous winner Jaylon Morris may have changed the outcome as his mount was really coming to life in the closing circuits. A third newcomer, Chris Breen would make a solid 3rd place run with Tim Ottenbacher and Dan Doysher rounding out the top 5. With another win Huisman would take the points lead in the series.

Action Packed Saturday Night

Action Packed Saturday Night

7/8/2010

Even though there were no fireworks show Saturday night at the Weston County Speedway in Newcastle, that doesn’t mean there was any lack of excitement. Even before racing got underway, during hot laps, the #88 car of rookie driver Travis Reber tangled with another car and ended up-side down, and this was just a sign of things to come. Reber was ok, but his machine was done for the night.
In the first heat race, an all rookie field, driver Preston Bennett in his #12 car had his steering break coming out of corner 4 and drove straight into the front stretch fence, also getting up-side down. Preston was taken by ambulance to get checked out, he was shaken but released with no apparent injuries. In the next heat, Ron Faulk #9 also gave the crowd a scare as his car drove off corner 4 and into the fence, coming to a rest with the nose pointing skyward. He was ok and would return to action later.
Feature time offered more racing action as the 20 car field attempted to tackle the dry-slick track. Pole sitter Jeff Mount #39 was overtaken quickly by Alliance, NE driver Jeff Wignall, who looked like he had the field covered until a faulty fuel pump sidelined him for the night. After a handful of yellow flags for spinouts, spin-offs, and just general 20-car-dryslick mayhem, Newcastle’s Anthony “Home-skillet” Farnsworth captured the lead from Mount and held on for his first feature win of the season. Doug Napier in his RAACE Foundation #3D car, made a late race charge, but settled for the runner-up spot while Mount finished 3rd. Last week’s feature winner Ed Wagoner #51 ended up 4th and John Garrigan #95j rounded out the top 5.
The next race scheduled race for the BHMST is July 31 in Sturgis, SD

Wagoner Takes the Cambria Coal Miner’s Shootout

Wagoner Takes the Cambria Coal Miner’s Shootout

6/28/2010

Saturday night turned out to be a perfect night for the Cambria Coal Miner’s Shootout in Newcastle, WY, especially for hometown veteran racer Ed Wagoner. With thunderstorms all around the area, the weather held off and the 16 car field of the Black Hills Mini Sprint Tour put on a great show for the pack house. Eric Darrow started with the pole position and had what look to be an easy win, but with 2 laps left, his 8D machine ran out of fuel, giving the lead and win to Newcastle’s Ed Wagoner #51. After taking a number of years off from racing, Wagoner decided to jump back in to racing last year with his son-in-law Jason Dean #00, joining an ever-increasing number of mini-sprint racers out of Newcastle. “All the years I have been racing, this is the first feature win at my home-track” beamed Wagoner. “it was a good night”.

After the feature, with plenty of time left in the evening, the decision was made to take the wings off and “go racing again”. The BHMST put on a wingless show for the Cambria Coal Miner’s crowd, who couldn’t get enough sprint car action. The #3D RAACE Foundation machine of Doug Napier started on the pole position, but lost the lead mid-race to Larry “The Outlaw” Reub in his red #59 self-built chassis, showing the factory chassis guys how it is done, and landing his second feature win of the season. Reub had a rough start to the night losing a wheel in his heat race causing his car to tip-over “easy” in classic “Arty Johnson” style. (a reference to Laugh-in show for you youngsters)

Great 22 car field in Sturgis!

Great 22 car field in Sturgis!

6/22/2010

Saturday night in Sturgis, 22 Mini-sprints from SD, NE, WY, and MN, good fast track, almost perfect weather, and a good sized crowd at the Jackpine Gypsy short track. Almost perfect. Who could ask for anything more? The decision was made to split the large group into 2 equally matched 11 car features. The first feature was won by the up and coming hot-shoe from Newcastle, WY Danny Benshoof in the Farnsworth Services #01 car, leading it wire to wire as the rain started falling. Finishing out the top 5 were John Garrigan #95j, #23 Doug McIntosh, #51 Ed Wagoner, and #3d Doug Napier. Taking the second feature was the ever popular Mother Nature in her wet colored H2O machine. As the rain started falling in the first feature, it just increased and didn't let up, drenching the field and the crowd........ Almost a perfect night.
