ABOUT MINIAKOTA . . .

ABOUT MINIAKOTA . . . . . Established in 2003, MINIAKOTA Micro-Sprints is a group of racers dedicated to the growth, development and enjoyment of affordable Micro-Sprint racing in Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota. Since its’ initial organization, the group has enjoyed annual increases in participation as well as progressive changes to both technical and procedural rules and regulations. Micro-Sprint cars are purpose built, 50” to 70” wheelbase, open-wheeled 775 lb. (with driver) racecars, powered by modified 600cc / 4-stroke motorcycle engines producing upward of 120 HP. All cars must have top wings, the top surface of which is not less than 10 square feet or more than 16 square feet. Drivers must be at least 12 years old. Racing on both flat and banked dirt oval tracks that vary from 1/6 to 3/8 mile in length, Micro-Sprints are capable of reaching speeds in excess of 120 MPH on the longer tracks. Typically, on the shorter tracks, maximum speeds are in the 60 to 80 MPH range. The cost of a Micro-Sprint race car ranges from less than $2500.00 for an “older, used car” to as much as $14,000.00 for a new “state of the art”, race-ready championship car. Nobles County Speedway Incorporated (NCSI) located in Worthington, Minnesota is the “home” track for MINIAKOTA Micro-Sprints. Races are scheduled from May through the summer months into September. In addition to the regularly scheduled races at NCSI, MINIAKOTA Micro-Sprints promotes a touring series visiting several different tracks in Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota, Wyoming and Wisconsin. These “new” venues provide an opportunity for both younger drivers and veterans alike to hone their driving skills and enrich their racing experience or enhance their careers. Many fans attending MINIAKOTA tour events will see very competitive Micro-Sprint racing for the first time.
